Luc Leestemaker

During an outing to La Jolla with my sister earlier in the year, she and I stopped into Madison Gallery, one of a number of lovely galleries in the city.  There, I came upon the work of Dutch artist Luc Leestemaker, and rather quickly became enamored with his work.  Sadly, I’ve learned that Leestemaker passed away on May 18th at only fifty five years of age.

It’s not often that I come to love an artist’s labors so intensely, but Leestemaker’s work is achingly beautiful: abstract yet endearing, naive yet conscious, bathed in the colors of fantasy.

I leave you with “Chrysanthemum #16” and “Chrysanthemum #9” from his series Chrysanthemum, both from Madison Gallery’s site, http://www.madisongalleries.com/.
